American Residential Services, a heating and air conditioning company serving the Inland Empire, in partnership with the Temecula Valley Foundation for Excellence in Education, has chosen the student winners from its “Think Green” energy conservation campaign.

This past weekend, at the Taste of Temecula Valley, American Residential Services (ARS) awarded three winners from its “Think Green” campaign with their prizes. The three students were recognized for their innovative, green ideas for conserving energy usage in the home. (Courtesy photo)

Lauren Schlanksky from Chaparral High School took home the grand prize and a $500 reward with her innovative and environmentally friendly essay idea.

Second place and a $300 cash prize went to Jack Nelson from Margarita Middle School and third place, with a $200 cash reward, was awarded to Sophia Zeida from Rancho Elementary.

ARS is matching the total prize earnings with a $1,000 donation to the Temecula Valley Foundation for Excellence in Education.

The opportunity, created by ARS and the Temecula Valley Foundation for Excellence in Education, inspired local students to expand their critical-thinking skills and focus on energy conservation in their own communities.

Projects, models and essays were submitted from Temecula Valley Unified School District students.

The winners were recognized at the Taste of Temecula Valley on Saturday, April 27.

Winning selections were made by ARS’s regional manager Colin Martodam and ARS Inland Empire’s general manager John Butler based on the following criteria: creativity, sustainability, topic-specificity, impact and functionality.

The contest was open to all “green” ideas from 4th through 12th grade students within the Temecula Valley Unified School District.

“Our partnership with the Temecula Valley Foundation for Excellence in Education was a phenomenal way for the team at ARS to give back to our local schools,” said Colin Martodam, regional manager of American Residential Services’ Southwest Division. “We were absolutely thrilled to read through the innovative submissions and to initiate the energy conservation awareness program for youth here in Temecula Valley. Our hope is that this will be just part one of many more green community initiatives to come.”

In addition to the prizes for the winning classes and the donation to the Temecula Valley Foundation for Excellence in Education, ARS also donated $30 to TVFEE for every ARS Home Service Plan purchased by Temecula residents throughout the duration of the campaign.

These Home Service Plans include two full-service maintenance tune-ups and inspections within a one-year period. Home Service Plan membership guarantees customers benefits and services for their home, including discounts on repairs and selected services, priority scheduling and a full one-year guarantee on all work performed.
